Player Equipment

U7/U9 players do not need rib pads or bicep pads

Information on purchasing gear:

There is lacrosse specific equipment, but a lot of the gear is very similar to hockey/ringette gear - helmet/mask, shoulder pads, elbow pads all work great. Lacrosse specific pieces that are needed are the kidney/rib pads and bicep pads. Bicep pads are often forgotten as people think the small padding on shoulder pads is sufficient. We recommend adding bicep pads on top to allow your player to comfortably take a cross check. Lacrosse gloves are recommended as they are more flexible than hockey gloves making it easier for the kids to craddle, pass and catch.

Lacrosse sticks - the head should be a full size head (not a mini stick meant for backyard play). The length of the shaft can be cut down if it is too long. The thickness is standard but does come in a smaller size meant for kids that is great for U11 and under (but not needed).

The 2 stores in HRM that carry lots of lacrosse gear are Sportwheels in Sackville and Cleves in Burnside. There is some lacrosse gear on facebook marketplace.

Mouth guards are mandatory. Southgate Dentistry has generously teamed up with the Hurricanes to offer free mouth guards to our players. Please call or email the office to book an appointment - 902 444-3878 / info@southgatedentistry.ca

Self molding mouth guards can be purchased at most sports stores.
